If you ask ten people what humiliation is, you will get a range of answers from verbally assaulting or degrading someone, to placing someone in an embarrassing situation. If we are talking about BDSM specifically, I would agree. However, if you ask the same people if they have every been humiliated they will each have a story to tell about their own personal moment of humiliation.

There are many types of humiliation. We have all been humiliated in one way or another at some time in our lives. The big question is: How did it make you feel? Some things that humiliate us are personal, others are societal. By that I mean some things are humiliating because of our own self-image or perception of what others think, and some are created through social or moral taboos. Such things as public exposure, depending on who might witness it, can be both embarrassing and exciting at the same time as well as being considered immoral. In other words, it is considered in bad taste to expose one's self to a minor (not to mention being against the law). However, exposing one's self at a nude beach might be humiliating to one while blase to another. Therefore, humiliation is a personal thing.

Let's talk about humiliation as it relates to public exposure. If we are going to practice humiliation as a form of BDSM play, then we need to understand it's complexities. For example, if you want your submissive to get the most from a humiliating experience, then you need to know exactly how the submissive feels about the situation in which you wish to place them.

Let's assume, for moment, that you want to publicly embarrass your submissive through some sort of public exposure. First you make sure that you are not dealing with someone who fully enjoys being totally nude in public. Otherwise, all your efforts will be for naught. Next, you need to know as much about this person's feelings toward public exposure as you can. Does it secretly excite them? Would it only serve to make them angry? Would they be extremely upset should a minor accidentally see them? Then you need to consider the best place for this planned exposure. Should it be somewhere where your submissive will be surrounded by strangers? Or would friends or coworkers be more humiliating? I mean you could have a female “accidentally” expose her breasts at the beach surrounded by perfect strangers, or she could do the same thing at a small group gathering such as a party where she knows everyone. It would depend on the particular submissive as to which of these two situations would be more humiliating.

Maybe you would get a better reaction (more intense?) if there were only a “chance” of being seen by someone else. For example: Being naked and bound in the back yard or in a forest where the chance of being spotted is very real, but also the chance of NOT being spotted is equally as realistic. Again, you need to know your submissive inside and out. Of course, you can always experiment. Start out with something easy such as flashing a truck driver while riding on the highway, or going to a 'clothing optional' beach for a little “exposure.”

The fact is, public exposure of this type is one of the most common forms of humiliating excitement found in submissive's. Add the 'forced' to do it by a Dominant to the equation and you add to the excitement as well.

Here is a brief list of some of the more humiliating things you might want to try with your submissive:

• Walking the local mall with your submissive in collar and leash.
• Going to dinner and feeding your submissive from your plate.
• Making your submissive choose a toy from your favorite Fetish shop.
• Making your submissive give their underwear (panties) to a waiter or waitress.
• Making your submissive fondle themselves (or even masturbate) in a public setting.
• Make your male submissive wear women's underwear to work.

The list goes on, just use your imagination and a bit of discretion. I'm sure you can find some excellent ways to humiliate your submissive without getting arrested.
